Fleur Wood is the founder and director of Ads-Up, a charity encouraging Australians in the USA to support the 1,250 refugees from Manus Island and Nauru being resettled in America under the US-Australia refugee deal.
Our goal is to mobilise the great Aussie diaspora to do what our governments could not, create a network of social support and provide financial assistance when necessary.
Refugees arriving in the United States are provided with 90 days of limited assistance from resettlement agencies – after that, they’re on their own. We aim to fill the gap.
"I'm proud to be Australian, but I'm not proud of what we've done on Manus and Nauru. Now we Aussies have a chance to step up and help these people start new lives."
